Warnings of increased fees and taxes

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

The former Secretary General of the Tax Office, an expert in financial management, Dr. Ahmed Adam Salem, warned:
There is any tendency to increase fees and taxes in these circumstances, and it leads directly to a decrease in public revenues in the state.
Salem said in his speech to (Al-Ahdath) against the backdrop of Sudanese Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim’s admission of a decline in public revenues by 80%, he said that if the Minister of Finance wanted to increase state revenues, he strengthened Salem due to his long experience in managing and developing revenues.
Salem proposed to the Minister of Finance to reduce fees and taxes so that they would be within the reach of the payers, indicating that increasing fees and taxes in these circumstances means a decrease in public revenues in the state.
He attributed this to the fact that smuggling of goods and evasion of paying fees will increase.
He emphasized that expanding the tax umbrella horizontally can only be achieved by reducing taxes, customs and fees, pointing out that one of the reasons for the narrowing of the tax umbrella is the rise in fees and taxes.
