Gulf Cooperation Council States affirmed the urgent need to find a comprehensive solution to the Sudanese crisis, and urged Sudan on the need for calm, giving priority to the language of dialogue and unifying ranks, preserving the cohesion of national state institutions, preventing their collapse, and preventing any external interference in Sudanese affairs that would fuel the conflict and threaten regional peace and security.
This came in the statement delivered by Dr. Hind Abdul Rahman Al-Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva, on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council States in her capacity as Chairperson of the Gulf Group, during the “Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the Report of the High Commissioner Sudan,” in the context of the 55th session of the Human Rights Council. She expressed the deep concern of the GCC States on suffering of the Sudanese people from violence, displacement and the collapse of basic human rights, noting that the GCC States encourage talks facilitated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States US the Intergovernmental Authority on Development IGAD and the African Union AU between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces SAF and representatives of the Rapid Support Forces RSF , which resumed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on October 29.
She expressed that the GCC States welcomed the declaration issued on November 7, 2023 regarding the commitment of the Sudanese parties to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid and pave the way for reaching an agreement that will alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people, meet their aspirations, and contribute to enhancing the country’s security, stability and prosperity in all fields.
Dr. Al-Muftah reiterated the GCC States ’ commitment to standing by the Sudanese people and continuing to provide humanitarian aid and support and contribute to alleviating their suffering.
