Al-Nair recommends developing new sources to increase revenues

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

Economist Dr. Muhammad Al-Nayer warned against thinking about increasing prices or value-added tax to increase state revenues.
In his speech to (Al-Ahdath), he pointed out the importance of increasing state revenues in light of the current circumstances by thinking about developing new revenue streams without compromising the lives of citizens, so that the mining sector is activated, most of which is in safe states such as the Nile River state, as it is the first state in terms of gold production. And also the northern state, which produces a significant production, if the smuggling of gold is limited, production is controlled, and the revenue from gold exports in foreign currency is benefited, as well as benefiting from Sudan’s non-independent natural resources, and that this is not at the expense of the citizen by not increasing prices to increase revenues.
Al-Nayer said that the decline in state revenues is not only due to the war, acknowledging the impact of the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Militia in significantly reducing state resources, including that the 2024 budget estimates were not realistic, indicating that this applied to the 2022 and 2023 budgets, for which total expenditures were estimated. 8 trillion pounds, while the previous one in 2022 was less than 4 trillion, and it is impossible to increase it significantly, adding that the unrealistic budget estimates had a greater role in the decline in revenues, and he added that the 2024 budget did not announce its details or numbers as before, except that experts cannot announce it. He analyzed it and called for transparency in quarterly performance reports, presenting them to the Council of Ministers and then announcing them to public opinion, but during three years no periodic quarterly reports of budget performance were submitted and therefore they were supposed to be announced.
