Demands for special prosecution offices for mining disputes in the north
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
Gold producers in the northern state called for the necessity of expediting the settlement of encroachments that take place in mining areas, and demanded the establishment of special prosecutions and courts for mining disputes, pointing out that the slowness in arbitration hinders the production process and reduces state revenues. The local communities in the production areas described that Resolution 90 regarding granting the locals their share directly contributed directly to the establishment of a number of service, social, educational and health projects.
The Secretary-General of the Al-Mahs Sheikhat Union, Hassan Saad Al-Din Ibrahim, said that Resolution 90 gave local communities the rights of social responsibility, and a number of different service projects were implemented, calling for the need to increase the percentage of amounts to local communities.
Hassan said in press statements that, in their meeting with the director of the Mineral Resources Company, they demanded not to prejudice Ministerial Resolution No. 90 after the tangible benefits to local governments.
He pointed out that they did not mind increasing exploration by companies and producers, provided that they adhered to health, environmental and security requirements and did not harm the citizen.
