The Qatari government affirmed its support for Sudan, its unity and stability in order to overcome this critical stage that it is suffering from due to the ongoing war, announcing an increase in the support provided during the coming period.
At the same time, Qatari Minister of International Cooperation Lulua Al Khater called on the international community to intensify visits to Sudan and place its file on the international agenda, noting that the Sudan file has declined on the international agenda. “We call on the international community to fulfill its commitments and pledges towards Sudan.” Lulua added. “We urge international organizations to reach the largest number of the refugees and displaced persons, who exceeded ten million displaced persons and refugees.” She said.
Lulua said in press statements at Port Sudan Airport after the conclusion of her visit to the country today, Saturday, that the Qatari government will operate an air bridge during the holy month of Ramadan that will include the distribution of fifty thousand food baskets, pointing out that Qatari support includes health, food and shelter projects.
For his part, the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Muhammad Ibrahim, said that the air bridge of humanitarian and medical aid expresses communication between the two countries, noting that the primary purpose of the visit is to stand on the ground with Sudan and the work of the Qatari organizations operating in the country, pointing out that the Ministry hopes for continuity of support in the next stage, especially the stage of rehabilitation of the country. He added that the inauguration has implications for supporting the Sudan file and fulfilling the international pledges that Qatar committed to by allocating one and a half million dollars at the Geneva Conference last year, which was distributed through Qatar’s arms and institutions operating in the country.
Haitham pointed out that Qatar provided many necessary and humanitarian needs during the last stage, but there are forty-two million Sudanese who need support, and that what was provided by the international community did not fill the large gap, pointing out that there are more than ten million refugees and displaced people who were displaced due to the war. They need the support of international organizations and institutions.
The Qatari Minister of International Cooperation, accompanied by the Acting Federal Minister of Health, recorded a visit to Qatar Charity’s aid packing stores, which includes packing 50,000 food baskets funded by the Qatar Fund for Development, and is implemented through the Qatar Charity Association.
