Sudan Events – Nahid Oshi

The Secretary-General of the Atbara Chamber of Commerce, Seif El-Din Moqled, revealed the availability of goods, especially Ramadan supplies, in the Nile River State, despite the slight increase in prices that occurred on some goods due to administrative fees between states and localities within the 2024 budget, in addition to the increase in petroleum derivatives, which increased the cost of transportation. He spoke to (Al-Ahdath) about the flow of goods to the state from the eastern side through the port of Port Sudan and arriving to it through the Red Sea port, and from the northern side through the port coming from northern Sudan from the Arab Republic of Egypt. He said that the economic bodies, including businessmen, investors and suppliers, were able to provide all the required needs. He added that despite the large population density that the state witnessed following the outbreak of devastation on the fifteenth of April last year and its expansion in Gezira State, which led to the influx of citizens of Khartoum and Madani to the Nile River, doubling the population of the state, the responsible authorities were able to provide the needs of goods and materials, even to the states. The security adjacent to the Nile River State emphasized the flexibility of economic policies, as economic authorities allowed the re-export of necessary materials and the provision of services in shelter centers in schools, boarding houses, and some homes. The state was able to accommodate all expatriates and provide livelihoods through the multiple voluntary organizations in the state, charitable initiatives, and the Atbara Chamber of Commerce, which supported expatriates and providing a decent life. While economic agencies (commercial and industrial) were able to provide the citizen’s needs for Ramadan supplies, many destinations provided direct support, especially to the people of the country abroad, by providing food supplies to expatriates and needy resident families. Muqallad confirmed the availability of goods and the initiatives’ efforts to provide Ramadan Iftars in shelter centers and sponsorship for more than a thousand families, 5,000 individuals, in the shelters. Ramadan Iftar was provided in the cities of Atbara, Al-Damar and Barbar, while charitable organizations and the youth of Atbara were able to provide all Iftars for all the numbers present, and even what is available now in terms of support is sufficient for after the month of Ramadan.
The Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce pointed out the support for the citizens of the Nile River State, as 2,500 Ramadan baskets were distributed to all needy families, orphans, and host families in various cities of the state, in addition to the efforts of the Atbara Organization to develop health services in partnership with the Moves Organization, which was able to provide 400 baskets to needy families.
