Spanish press reports confirmed, on Thursday, that Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid star, insulted one of Inter Milan’s stars during their match on Wednesday, in the second leg of the Champions League final.
The Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported that Griezmann was filmed by cameras insulting Chilean Alexis Sanchez, the Inter striker.
The newspaper added that while Sanchez was taking a penalty kick, Griezmann appeared insulting the Chilean player, saying: “Despicable…coward.”
The video spread widely across social media platforms, so Griezmann personally contacted Sanchez to apologize to him for his bad behavior.
Marca reported that Griezmann was very enthusiastic, and that his goal was to encourage fellow goalkeeper Jan Oblak, not to insult the opponent, pointing out that Sanchez accepted Griezmann’s apology.
Sanchez had participated as a substitute player in extra time of the match, and missed a penalty kick, which contributed to the Nerazzurri’s elimination from the tournament.
Inter bid farewell to the Champions League after losing to Atletico Madrid on penalties, after the match’s regular time ended in a 2-2 draw on aggregate.
