Sudan Events – Agencies

The camps for the displaced in North Darfur state are experiencing critical humanitarian conditions after renewed clashes in the city of El Fasher between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The official spokesman for the displaced and refugees, Adam Rijal, said, according to Al-Taghyeer, that the conditions of the displaced are catastrophic and very critical, and there is an urgent need to provide drinking water and medicine in the shelter centers for the displaced who were displaced from the areas west of the El-Fasher countryside to the areas of Shaqra, Al-Bahir and Umm Hajalij.

Senior United Nations officials warned the UN Security Council on Friday that about 800,000 people in the Sudanese city of El Fasher are at serious and immediate risk, in light of the worsening violence and the threat of unleashing a bloody tribal conflict throughout Darfur.

Rijal explained that most of the displaced are in the Shaqra area, and residents stand in long queues about 300 meters from the water source.

The Committee to Support Victims of the Events West of El Fasher revealed that more than 20,000 displaced people from 18 villages are living in difficult humanitarian conditions.

He called for the need to save children from acute malnutrition, the cases of which are increasing daily due to the scarcity of food in the Abu Shouk camp for the displaced.
