Threats to Prosecute White Nile Farmers Legally
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
(Sudan events) Follow-ups have revealed that the Department of Rain-fed Agriculture in White Nile State called on farmers to expedite the payment of their financial obligations.
A sealed letter from the administration, obtained by (Sudan Events), revealed that the financial obligations in question are land rent, renewal of contracts for expired agricultural projects, as well as payment of fees for areas whose legalization has been approved until contracts are extracted for them.
The letter stressed the need to review the administration, underlined that this was a warning, and threatened to take legal measures for arrears and expired contracts.
Farmers criticized the White Nile Agriculture Ministry’s interest in collecting taxes without providing any instructions to the farmer, and stressed the need to secure agricultural lands that have become a reservoir and hideout for the RSF Militia with their combat vehicles.
Pointing out that there were victims of farmers who were killed in cold blood inside their tents, their property was looted, and they are now poor.
They demanded a freeze on land rent payments this year and the renewal of contracts so that the farmer can contribute to preparing camps for the protection forces until the planting process is completed this year, warning against not planting this season.
