Drones in Sudan War…The Death that Creeps into Janjaweed Rooms
Sudan Events – Amir Abdul Majid
No one can imagine the extent of the horror of warplanes, regardless of their size, to the fighters or even to those on the ground. Unless you live those moments, no words will describe them. The sound of these planes at the moment they launch missiles to those on the ground is like the Day of Resurrection because the Mirage and the Sukhoi ) which the army uses when it descends to lower levels so quickly to release its lava that you can almost neither see nor hear… you freeze in place. This is what we see, especially in the first months of the war, before the army drones come and before we see the rapid support militia (RSF) drones .
Reconnaissance mission
Around the fourth month of the war, we began to listen to the sounds of exploding shells and aircraft shells. Their sound, for those who lived in the atmosphere of war, is different from the sounds of cannons, mortars, rifles, RPGs, and others. The sound of the plane shell hitting is different, and its effect is clear. As we entered the fourth month, drones appeared in Khartoum, and most of them were Primarily, the residents here call it (Umm Shabato), which is the name of an (insect) widespread in Sudan. The naming indicates the lists and the fact that they are multi-lateral, and they are very similar to the drones that are used today in most satellite channels to capture scenes from above, and I believe that most of them (Drone) has been modified. In general, we saw it hovering here and there, and we did not know whether it belonged to the army or the RS, as they both own this “Umm Shabato”, which sometimes carries missiles, and its mission is often reconnaissance, because the bombs it carries are usually small and their results are limited, and they cannot travel long distances.
Presence in the scene
Military expert Al-Tayeb Al-Malkabi says that most of the drones used are primitive and predominantly suicidal, and that their long distances to reach Shendi and Atbara is a strange matter that raises many questions because it is certain that they were launched from close distances.
On the other hand, a military source, a senior officer who leads military operations in Omdurman, says, “We recently arrested infiltrators in the Northern State and the River Nile State carrying drones that were dismantled and shipped in regular travel bags. This explains to you how they arrived and were launched from within the state.” He added, “The goal of the launching drones operations in Atbara, Shendi, and even in Merowe is to create a media sensation that will lead them to negotiations that will maintain their presence in the scene because they know that these drones will not achieve a military victory for them in Atbara, Shendi, and Merowe.” He mocked the stories that talk about the army launching drones against brigades fighting alongside it. He said, “This is like that, and it is an attempt to cause a stir that will achieve some gains for them.” He continued, “We are fighting our battle on the ground and we are not concerned about such rumors.”
A revolution in operations
With the passage of a full year of war, a plane called (Muhajir 6) entered the line. It was a plane that caused a revolution in operations on the ground and became the tip of the spear in the operations that the army was waging in Khartoum and the Gezira and even in the battles around El Fasher… a silent plane that did not emit the loud sound that It comes out of combat aircraft, not even the buzzing sound that comes from the drones (Umm Shabato). This is a different type that infiltrates the RSF positions and attacks them. It does not limit itself to filming, monitoring, and analyzing, but rather enters the strongholds of the forces and forcefully strikes positions or convoys of cars, which are things that used to exhaust the army because RSF deployed ground anti-aircraft weapons everywhere after warplanes exhausted them.
Given that hunting the small drones (Umm Shabato) was easy for both sides with the weapons of the duo and sometimes with the Dushkats, the entry of the Muhajir 6 made a big difference on the ground and had a major role in the battle to liberate the radio, for example, as the drones attacked the RSF that had gathered around the courtyards of the Caliph. It literally annihilated them and destroyed the forces that tried to join them from the Radio. They are soundless planes that possess great capabilities in photography, monitoring, analysis, and hitting targets with precision to the point where the Muhajir 6 drones have become a constant symbol of the death of the Janjaweed, and it is now the death that creeps into their beds.
