Unprecedented Rise in Commodity Prices

(Sudan Events) has monitored a significant increase in commodity prices in the Nile River State, specifically in Shendi locality. Commodity traders who spoke to the “events” justified the rise in prices because the price of the dollar had risen significantly, exceeding 1,600 pounds.
The price of a 10-kg bag of sugar reached 22 thousand pounds, compared to 18 thousand pounds, and the price of a kilo of veal meat recorded 9 thousand pounds, compared to 7 thousand pounds, while the price of a pure kilo reached 12 pounds, and the price of a kilo of lamb ranged between 12 to 14 thousand pounds, and the price of a kilo of lamb reached 12 thousand pounds. A kilo of potatoes costs 3,000 pounds, and the price of a kilo of eggplant is 3,000 pounds.
The price of flour rose from (SEGA) to 1,500 pounds and Egyptian to 1,200 pounds, while the prices of edible oils rose and the price of a liter reached 3,000 thousand pounds, compared to 2,500 thousand pounds.
The price of a pound of milk jumped to 700 pounds, and a plate of eggs to 7,000 pounds.
A dozen oranges sold for 1,000 pounds, and a kilo of bananas sold for 500 pounds.
Displaced people in the city of Shendi complained about the high prices of basic commodities, such as sugar, tea, flour, dairy, and red meat, which led to their inability to buy the needs of their families, indicating that they did not receive in-kind (relief) support, represented by 5 kilograms of flour and 5 pounds of cooking oil, because they live with their relatives. While the displaced people in shelters receive constant in-kind support in the form of flour, sugar, oil, and tea, they were also given a basket containing Ramadan needs during the month of Ramadan.
