Agreement Between Kabashi and American Official Regarding Humanitarian Aid

Director of the United States Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, has announced her call to the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Shams Al-Din Kabashi, about the humanitarian situation in Sudan, and added, “Concern was expressed about the escalation of violence in Darfur, and demands were made for calm and the start of ceasefire negotiations to end the conflict.”
She said that she made it clear that 5 million Sudanese need urgent aid. At a time when the forces are still placing obstacles to the arrival of relief, and about 680,000 people have not received the aid they need since last April, due to these obstacles, Samantha called for humanitarian aid to arrive without obstacles.
Samantha revealed that during the phone call with Lieutenant General Kabashi, it was emphasized that the obstacles imposed on aid operations would be lifted. And agreeing on the unhindered access of aid to those in need across the border from Chad to Darfur and other crossings, opening the border crossing with Chad and lifting the current restrictions on other border crossings to facilitate the provision of vital aid.
