Minister: Women Abandoned Children they Bore as a Result of Rape by Militia

The Minister of Social Development in Khartoum State, Siddiq Freni, has revealed that 11 women abandoned their children who were pregnant with them as a result of being raped by members of the Rapid Support militia.
According to Al-Sudani, Freni said, “(4) children were received in Khartoum, and (7) more will be received in the coming days. The Ministry is making an effort to integrate them into alternative families.”
He added: “Some mothers who have been subjected to rape in conflict areas have the idea of ​​voluntarily abandoning their children before giving birth.”
In this context, the Minister revealed the presence of (181) children in the Orphan Child Home (Maigoma) in Kassala State, and (7) of them died.
He said, “(30) children will be sponsored in the coming days in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Social Development, Kassala State, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), while (65) children without parental care were sponsored in the past months.”
