Understandings with FAO to Secure Seeds for the Agricultural Season

The acting governor of Gezira, Al-Taher Ibrahim Al-Khair, has confirmed his interest in agricultural production in both the rain-fed and irrigatiom sectors, in addition to animal production.
During his meeting (Saturday) in Al-Manaqil, the representative of the Minister of Production and Economic Resources in charge of the state, Engineer Arafa Mahmoud, in the presence of the Director of the General Administration of Agriculture in Al-Manaqil, Engineer Ayat Abdullah Youssef, pledged to continue supporting the agricultural sector by providing production requirements and components, calling on the field partners to work hard to come out with an exceptional season, adding that the armed forces are working to liberate every inch of the state.
The meeting discussed ways to make the rainy agricultural season successful in Al-Manaqil and Al-Qurashi localities, in an area of 650,000 fedans in the two localities. The meeting also discussed issues of livestock, pastures, and all sectors of agriculture.
For her part, Engineer Arafa Mahmoud revealed that contacts with the FAO Organization for securing seeds, as well as the governor’s contacts with the Federal Ministry, constituted strong support for the rainy season in the two localities, and she expressed her hope that the armed forces would restore other localities to realize the rainy season, while the Director of the Agriculture Department in Al-Manaqil, Ayat Abdullah Yousef, confirmed that Expectations indicate that the rainy season will be promising, adding that the target area for the rainy season is 400,000 fedans, including 200,000 fedans of sorghum, 180,000 sesame, and 20,000 millet, while the indicative area for vegetables is 7,000 fedans, including 2,000 gardens and the remainder are various vegetables, calling on Al-Manaqil and Qurashi farmers to carry the banner of production and achieve self-sufficiency to fill any gap, pointing to serious efforts to provide seeds as soon as possible because agriculture has timings, and reassured farmers that the locality is safe and that work is progressing well.
