Merowe Medical: 60% of our Departments Operate at a Loss

Merowe – Aya Ibrahim

The Director of the Advisory System Hospital Operations Department and the Acting Director General of Merowe Medical City, Dr. Hafez Mohammad Abdel Halim, promised to continue improving services in the city despite the challenges facing them in light of the circumstances the country is going through. He said, “The pressure on us is difficult. We are trying to satisfy all the people and develop the service.”
Abdel Halim pointed out in a press conference on Monday that Merowe Medical City is witnessing steady development in all medical services, including oncology. He confirmed that they do not mind using health insurance services.
He pointed out that there are a number of challenges they face, the most prominent of which are operational expenses.
He acknowledged the increase in revenues, and said, “But this is offset by the increase in operational expenditures.” He added, “We cannot put pressure on the government and the citizen, and we cannot mobilize the organizations.” He pointed out that 60% of Marawi’s medical departments are operating at a loss, and said we need about 81 thousand dollars to bring the rest of the system into service.
He noted that the devices that face the most pressure are CT scans and MRIs, which he said cannot work for more than 15 cases a day, noting that they are the only devices in Sudan. He said, “We kept turning off our phones regarding MRIs and the demand for them.”
