US Special Envoy to Sudan Tom Perriello has stressed the importance of political will in the comprehensive political process and in achieving sustainable peace in Sudan.
In a meeting organized by the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington on strengthening the voice of Sudanese civilians on the basic issues of ending the war and restoring peace, the American envoy addressed the role of regional powers and foreign fighters in fueling the war, and noted the need for these regional parties to take the suffering of the people into account. Perriello discussed his vision regarding the participation of civilians in the ongoing peace talks in Jeddah, he stressed that determining the political process remains with civilians.
