High prices of Sudanese goods in Cairo

Commercial activity for Sudanese goods expanded and the number of stores increased in Cairo following the war that broke out in Khartoum and some states of Sudan on April 15, 2023.
The cities of the Arab Republic of Egypt witnessed the arrival of large numbers of Sudanese people coming to them due to the war, which led to the expansion of commercial activity related to Sudanese goods (weikah, hibiscus, flour, yoghurt, coffee, millet) and other goods, but these goods witnessed a noticeable increase in prices, especially with the increase in of the duration of the war and the limited supply of goods with the increasing demand for the same.
The price of a kilogram of Sudanese coffee reached 350 Egyptian pounds, while the Egyptian pound was equivalent to 41.5 Sudanese pounds, a kilogram of weikah reached 300 pounds, a kilogram of peanut butter reached 140 pounds, and a pound of gazelle tea reached 400 pounds.
While the price of a kilogram of lamb (Sudanese) reached 350 pounds, and a kilogram of trotters reached 600 pounds. Sudanese families complained about the high prices for Sudanese goods compared to Egyptian ones, in addition to the high prices for apartment rents, especially after the war extended to Gezira State.
Resident Fatima Abdo said that saving rent costs, the insurance amount, and brokerage fees is what makes us worry the most, and she pointed out that rental prices have risen from a thousand pounds to more than 8 thousand pounds for unfurnished apartments in the Faisal area, while furnished apartments range between 12 and 15 thousand pounds.
