Vice President of the Sovereignty Council TSC Malik Aqar, affirmed their desire to revive the agreement on establishing a Russian naval base in the Red Sea, but said that the opinions of other countries must be taken into account.
Aqar added, according to the RIA Novosti Agency, “We, of course, have a desire to revive this agreement if this is the will of the two countries.. We are in the process of discussing this issue..
The existing agreement between the two countries talks about establishing a base.”
He affirmed the importance of taking into consideration the interests of other countries on the Red Sea coast, regardless of whether they are part of the project or not.
In the context, Finance Minister Jibril Ibrahim said on Friday that Russia wants an outlet on the Red Sea and that his country does not mind having “friends and partners” on its Red Sea coasts.
He added in an interview to the Russian TV channel “RT” that the idea proposed regarding a Russian presence on the Sudanese coast does not mean the presence of military experts or a base, noting that the talk is focused on “a service point through which Russian ships can reach the Red Sea coast, anchor there and obtain the supplies they need.
Ibrahim pointed out that Sudan “does not reject to the Russian presence, but the rejection is from the West, America and its allies,” considering that the Sudanese coast on the Red Sea “can accommodate everyone” if US wanted to buy a similar point.
