Finance Minister: There is no Famine in Sudan

Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim affirmed that there is no famine in Sudan, and considered the talk about famine inaccurate. He afffirmed in a speech before the St. Petersburg Conference in Russia, on Thursday, that the country has enough grains up to this moment.
The minister acknowledged the challenges facing the distribution of grains and the difficulty of delivering them to several regions in Sudan due to the war, and added, “Sudan is considered a food basket for Sudan, Africa, the Middle East, and even the entire world.”
The minister pointed to the promising agricultural potential that Sudan is distinguished by in terms of agricultural production and possesses millions of hectares suitable for agriculture, and affirmed that what Sudan needs is only political stability to benefit from these potentials.
The minister announced Sudan’s need for economic partnerships
to support the wheel of production, as well as for technology that contributes to reducing time, increasing productivity, and improving the calculation of expectations in the future, indicating that if the appropriate economic partnership is available, many equations in the region will change.
He reiterated his confidence that Sudan can provide Africa with food, which will reduce these countries’ dependence on imports from outside the continent.
The minister affirmed that Sudan needs partners from BRICS countries with experience in wheat and sugar production, and continued, “We have previous successful experiences with Brazil,” adding that these partnerships can achieve great benefits and will change the nature of production and achieve the required self-sufficiency, not only that, but they will also export goods to the global market at competitive prices.
