The UN Security Council called on the Rapid Support Militia RSF to end the siege of El Fasher, and called for an immediate cessation of fighting and de-escalation in and around the capital of North Darfur.
In a statement following a session on Thursday, the Security Council urged the withdrawal of all fighters who threaten the safety and security of civilians, with the support of local mediation mechanisms.
The Security Council expressed its fear at the continuing reports of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights violations and abuses, including cases of sexual and gender-based violence, and called for accountability for these violations.
It expressed its concern about the catastrophic and deteriorating humanitarian situation, including severe food insecurity at the crisis level or worse, and the imminent threat of famine, particularly in Darfur.
