Sudan Events – Nahid Oshi
Sudan Electricity Holding Company announced the return of electricity supply to the network, and revealed the entry of the Merowe station into service, and after that the entry of the hydroelectric power stations in Atbara, Setit and Roseires, and then the gradual return of electricity began in most states.
In a statement on Thursday, it disclosed the general blackout in the national electricity grid.
It said, “At around 7 pm on Wednesday, the electricity transmission line between Al-Jumyia and Jabal Awliya stations was subjected to artillery shelling, coinciding with the exit of Al-Mahdia transformer station, which led to the exit of a number of lines and thus the exit of the Merowe station from service, which in turn led to a complete blackout that affected all the states of Sudan that fall within the national grid system.
The statement said, “The engineers, technicians and workers at the Merowe Dam power station made tremendous efforts to restart the station and thus restore the electricity supply to the network, as the Merowe station entered service, and after that the hydroelectric power stations in Atbara, Setit and Roseires entered service, and then the gradual return of power began in most states.
He added, “Technical teams from the transportation and distribution companies on the one hand and the National Control Center on the other hand continued working throughout Wednesday night and until Thursday morning to restore all affected lines and begin treating the lines affected by the bombing, hoping that all technical work will be completed to restore the electricity supply to the remaining affected areas as soon as possible.”
The company called on citizens to work on rationalizing consumption by reducing loads to ensure the safety of low and medium voltage transformers and lines so that everyone can enjoy a stable and sustainable electricity current.
