The President of the Italian Federation announces Spalletti’s fate

Gabriele Gravina, President of the Italian Football Federation, has decided on his position on the dismissal of Luciano Spalletti, the national team’s coach, after the resounding collapse of Euro 2024, with the tournament being eliminated in the round of 16 by Switzerland (2-0).
Gravina said during a joint press conference with Spalletti, after the end of Italy’s campaign in the tournament: “We have nothing to hide, but we must continue to bear responsibility. We need to feel responsible. There was a long conversation with the coach, and I think it is unreasonable to solve problems by abandoning a project that extends for several years… The project cannot be abandoned after 8 or 9 months. The coach who has been in charge for 9 or 10 matches is essential for the project, and he cannot always provide all the players… Spalletti must have our trust, and he really enjoys it…and he has to work, because in 60 days there will actually be a new challenge.”
