Al-Shuyoo: Abiy Ahmed has a specific vision that he will present to the SAF commander
New external movements towards Sudan during these days fall within the category of searching for ways to resolve the country’s crisis after the Rapid Support RSF Militia rebelled against the Sudanese Armed Forces SAF in April of last year and the extension of its violations in a number of states, the last of which was Sennar state. Among these movements is the visit of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Sudan.
Will these movements succeed in resolving the crisis and, before that, in revitalizing Sudanese-Ethiopian relations? (Sudan Events ) put these questions on the table of experts and politicians and came out with the following outcome.
Sudan Events – Aya Ibrahim
President of the Sovereignty Council TSC ,Commander of the SAF , Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received on Tuesday the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his accompanying delegation.
Al-Burhan affirmed the depth of bilateral relations between Khartoum and Addis Ababa.
For his part, Abiy Ahmed expressed his happiness to visit Sudan, indicating that his country takes into consideration its relationship with Sudan, referring to the cooperative relations between the two countries in various fields.
Different tension :
Abiy Ahmed’s visit to Sudan is the first since the outbreak of the war and coincides with political and military tension between Khartoum and Addis Ababa on the border based on repeated intelligence reports reaching the Sudanese army SAF regarding Ethiopian military intervention, addition to accusations against Ethiopia of supporting the militia and (Taqddum)Coordination.
Many implications
Head of the National Movement Powers , Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi, said that the visit of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Sudan has many implications and that Port Sudan has become of great importance, as is evident from the rapid visits of representatives of countries to Port Sudan.
Sisi added in his statement to (Sudan Events) by saying, “It is true that the Sudanese government has some reservations about the positions of the African Union (AU )particularly after the suspension of its membership, in addition to Hemeti’s visit to Addis Ababa last year, but the visit could lead to thawing the ice in Sudanese-Ethiopian relations and could push the negotiation file forward, particularly since it was preceded by the visit of the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, Walid bin Abdul Karim Al-Khuraiji, and it is expected that the President of the Sovereignty Council TSC had stipulated, in order to start new negotiations, commitment to what was signed in May of last year.
Building foundation :
Hours before the arrival of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to the country, the President of the Sovereignty Council TSC Commander of the Sudanese SAF ,Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, discussed with the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, Walid bin Abdul Karim Al-Khuraiji, the resumption of negotiations in Jeddah forum.
Sudanese Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Al-Amin, said that the discussions between Al-Burhan and Al-Khuraiji “addressed the call to resume Jeddah forum.”
He pointed out that Al-Burhan confirmed to the Saudi official Sudan’s keenness to make Jeddah forum a success as it is a foundation on which to build, affirming the need to implement what Agreed upon in May 2023.
Pivotal role :
The head of the National Movement Forces, Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi, in his interview with (Sudan Events ), hoped that Abiy Ahmed’s visit would have positive results and lead to a review of the African Union’s position regarding the freezing of Sudan’s membership and a review of the position of the IGAD countries.
He pointed out that Ethiopia plays a pivotal role in the IGAD group due to the presence of the African Union AU presidency in it. He said, “We must deal with it and there should be common interests for the good of the two countries.”
He noted that during the visit, one of the most important files related to the refugees stranded in Ethiopia who face many challenges could be discussed.
He hoped that the Ethiopian government would take the necessary measures to protect them or ensure their security and safety and the flow of aid to them.
Deep Relations :
President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council TSC, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces SAF Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, held a bilateral meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Tuesday at the Guest Palace, in which he discussed the ties of bilateral relations between Sudan and Ethiopia.
Al-Burhan said that the visit of the Ethiopian Prime Minister comes to indicate the depth of relations between the peoples of the two countries, indicating that it is an extension of the sincerity of the Ethiopian leadership and its good intentions towards Sudan, stressing the strength of relations between the two countries and the importance of preserving them.
President of the Sovereignty Council TSC ,provided an enlightenment to the Ethiopian Prime Minister about the situation in Sudan against the backdrop of the rebellion led by the terrorist Rapid Support RSF Militia against the state and its institutions.
Al-Burhan affirmed Sudan’s keenness to develop areas of cooperation with Ethiopia in order to serve the common interests of the peoples of the two countries.
One Distance :
Head of the Sudanese community in Ethiopia, Khaled Karam, confirms that Sudan is in dire need of a visit by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, although it came late, but there is great reliance on it.
Karam told SudanEvents that he had previously spoken to Ethiopian media outlets about Ethiopia having to play a role in resolving the Sudanese issue, and said that Abiy Ahmed had previously intervened in resolving Sudanese issues and had succeeded, along with Ambassador Mahmoud Drid, in bringing together the viewpoints of the FFC and the Transitional Military Council earlier, and they had played a major role in resolving the problem.
He explained that the reliance on Abiy Ahmed had increased, particularly after his recent speech in parliament and his confirmation that he stood equidistant from both sides of the conflict and that he was seeking to resolve the problem.
He noted that the Ethiopian Prime Minister had won the Nobel Peace Prize for resolving the Ethiopian-Eritrean issue and that he enjoyed the love of the Sudanese people and good relations between the two parties, so the visit was expected to bear fruit.
Confirming Standing :
For his part, the Ethiopian Prime Minister expressed his thanks to the President of the Sovereignty Council TSC for the hospitality and reception, indicating that his visit to Sudan was in solidarity with the Sudanese people, and said that true friends appear in times of hardship.
Abiy Ahmed affirmed that the visit came to confirm the support of Ethiopia, government and people, with Sudan, indicating that it is a message of solidarity with the Sudanese people in their ordeal.
He added, “This war will end and relations between the two countries will remain solid and strong.” He pointed to the importance of peace as the basis for development, stressing that the problems of countries must be resolved internally without external interference.
An influential Factor :
The leader of the Communist Party, Kamal Karar, says that in addition to the fact that Ethiopia is a neighboring country to Sudan, and the effects of the war on it are direct, the extension of the war to the eastern borders, in light of Ethiopia’s internal problems, may have been an influential factor in the visit concerned with stopping the war in Sudan, particularly since the Ethiopian president gave important signals last week about the specificity of relations between the two countries, and previously received Hemedti, which means that he has a specific vision that he will present to the SAF commander.
Karrar added to (Sudan Events ): However, hope seems weak in achieving a breakthrough due to the intransigence of the two parties to the war.
New History :
On Saturday, the Egyptian capital, Cairo, hosted a conference for civil and political forces in Sudan, attended by a number of Sudanese officials and representatives of regional and international powers.
The closing statement of the conference stressed that the war that swept Sudan does not only represent a milestone, but rather a new history that obliges every Sudanese man and woman to carefully consider and review all positions.
The participants affirmed their condemnation of all violations committed in the war, and that the war is a vital indicator for thinking about the comprehensive re-establishment of the Sudanese state on the foundations of justice, freedom and peace, which requires the conviction of all Sudanese.
