MSF withdraws its team from a hospital in Khartoum after increasing militia violations

Sudan Events – Agencies

MSF decided on Wednesday to evacuate its team from the Turkish hospital located in an area controlled by the Rapid Support Forces RSF militia south of the capital, Khartoum, after increasing violations against its staff.
The organization said in a statement that “after more than a year of violent incidents inside and outside the Turkish hospital, including threats to the lives of the organization’s staff, we have decided to evacuate the hospital.”
It indicated that it was able to provide direct life-saving treatment in the Turkish hospital for 14 months, despite deliberate obstacles from the warring parties.
The organization revealed that its staff working in the Turkish hospital were subjected to repeated harassment, whether inside the facility or in the street while going to and from work, as many of them were threatened with arrest.
Head of MSF’s emergency response in Sudan, Claire Nicolet, said that “the situation in the Turkish hospital located in an area controlled by the Rapid Support Forces RSF has become unacceptable.”
She reported multiple incidents of violence inside and outside the hospital, and the lives of our staff were repeatedly threatened.
She added: “On the nights of 17 and 18 June, dozens of wounded fighters were brought to the Turkish hospital, and our team was violently awakened by Kalashnikovs being fired into their bedrooms.
This type of violence against our staff is unacceptable.”
