White Nile Bans the use of River Vessels
Sudan Events – Rehab
White Nile state banned the use of all river vessels based on the state of emergency declared in the state.
The emergency order issued by the state governor interpreted river vessels as any means used by humans on the White Nile River, including ferries, launches and boats.
The use of boats and ferries to cross the river and catch fish is widespread in the White Nile areas, and recently, citizens who move between Al Qitena area controlled by the Rapid Support RSF Militia and the Al-Duwaim area under the control of the army have resorted to them, as the boats help them avoid the dangerous checkpoints of the militia, and this risky journey has led to some drowning.
Dinder Emergency chamber announced that the Rapid Support RSF Militia had confiscated last week all boats and vessels used by citizens to cross the river in the city of Dinder, fleeing the attacks of the Rapid Support, but the White Nile authorities did not link this to the declaration of the emergency order.
The emergency order issued considered anyone who transports people and other things or practices any activity on the Nile a violator who exposes himself to imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months or a fine of not less than five million pounds, and in the event of a repeat violation, both penalties will be applied together with the confiscation of the means. The acting governor of the White Nile, Omar Al-Khalifa Ahmed, directed the concerned authorities to take the necessary measures to implement the emergency order.
