Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Blue Nile Region, Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Tahir, called for the necessity of transporting agricultural inputs from Port Sudan to the region via an airlift due to the interruption of the dirt road linking the region and the national road, Gedarif, Kassala, Port Sudan via Sinja and Al-Dinder, due to rainfall and security threats.
He said that the agricultural season must be saved, indicating that the Agricultural Bank has not yet authorized financing the agricultural season, with the slow processing of the insolvency of a significant number of farmers, which has negative repercussions, noting the continuation of efforts to feed the portfolio agreed upon with the banks to make the agricultural season a success.
He added that a number of major farmers have left the region despite the good security and insurance of agricultural projects, pointing out that the regional government has prepared an alternative plan to bridge this gap by benefiting from the displaced farmers from Sinja who came to the region with their machinery, addition to the expertise of the displaced farmers from Gezira and other states, where they are given large areas to achieve the objectives of the indicative plan aimed at cultivating 4 million acres in coordination with the Humanitarian Aid Commission, adding that arrangements have been made with organizations working in the field of humanitarian work to provide them with health services and food, affirming that the organizations have shown enthusiasm to support this program in a way that contributes to bridging the food gap and providing the strategic stock for the region and the country.
