Newcastle rejects Eddie Howe’s departure to coach England

Newcastle United announced its commitment to coach Eddie Howe, amid speculation about Gareth Southgate’s succession in the England national football team.
Newcastle CEO Darren Eales said that his club is determined to keep Howe (46 years old) and to resist any contact from the English Football Association after Southgate resigned following the loss of the European Championship final to Spain.
Howe took over Newcastle in 2021 and then extended his contract the following year for a long period after saving the team from relegation to the second division, and helped it qualify for the Champions League after a long absence.
“Of course, we will confront any attempt from the FA. We are embarking on an exciting journey with Howe and we realize that he is the right man to lead our project. That is why we have a long-term contract with him. We love him.” Eales said.
Newcastle will receive compensation from the FA if Howe is appointed to succeed Southgate, but Eales insists, as it is not a question of money.
The English Association must choose a coach before facing Ireland in the European Nations League on September 7, or assign at least a temporary coach.
Speculation indicates that Argentine Mauricio Pochettino and German Jurgen Klopp are also candidates for the position after leaving Chelsea and Liverpool.
