Kaisho Sano, the Japanese national team player and professional player for Mainz in Germany, was arrested by the Japanese police on charges of sexually assaulting a woman. The 23-year-old midfielder sexually assaulted a woman in a hotel in Tokyo, accompanied by two of his friends in their twenties. The police arrested the three near the hotel immediately after receiving a call from the woman, who was reported to be in her thirties.
Sano, who participated in 4 matches with Japan and was part of the national team’s squad in this year’s Asian Cup in Qatar, joined German Mainz earlier this month from Kashima Antlers. What happened represents the second time that a player from the Japanese national team has been accused of a similar case, when Junya Eto’o, the French Rennes player, left the Asian Cup last February after Japanese police said he was being investigated for an alleged sexual assault in Osaka last year. However, Eto’o denied these allegations and is suing his accusers, demanding compensation amounting to one million and 300 thousand dollars.
