Experts call for searching for Oil and Gas along the Red Sea coast

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

A scientific study on the structural status of sediments in Khor Ait area (64 km) north of Port Sudan revealed the existence of a first phase of cracking towards the north-south and a later phase towards the east-west, and affirmed the need to take these phases into consideration to search for oil, gas, mineral and industrial ores along the Red Sea coast.
Geological experts from the General Authority for Geological Research and the College of Petroleum and Minerals, Nilein University, published a scientific study on the structural status of the exposed Khor Ait sediments as evidence for understanding the cracking stages of the Red Sea coast – Sudan.
The paper highlighted the unique tectonic situation of the exposed sediments in the Khor Ait area, where the cracks are opposite to the known slope of the half-rift on the Sudanese side, which is supposed to be towards the east, but the sediments in Khor Ait show a half-rift towards the west. Based on this observation, structural measurements and geophysical studies were studied and analyzed by measuring gravity by satellites, studying sedimentary sections, and collecting field information.
