Warnings of the failure of Agricultural Season in the Blue Nile

Sudan Events – Nahid Oshi

Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in the Blue Nile Region, Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Tahir, warned of the collapse of the agricultural season due to the delay in the arrival of agricultural inputs, calling for their urgent dispatch, particularly since the opportunities of success of the agricultural season have become narrow, indicating that the agricultural season is threatened with collapse if the inputs do not arrive during this week, noting that the rainy season in the region has started early and that there are crops that are difficult to cultivate after mid-July (Tabat) and that this can be compensated for with other varieties.
Al-Tahir indicated that the recent statements of the Minister of Information about the center’s ability to provide inputs are promising and reassuring, calling for speedy implementation by transferring inputs to the targeted states and regions.
Al-Tahir said, “An emergency room must be formed with the participation of traders, the government, banks and farmers to purchase necessary goods, inputs and medicines, and to rent a cargo plane to ship them from Port Sudan to Damazin, while it is loaded with local goods and products from Damazin, particularly gum arabic, which is available in commercial quantities in the region.”
