Al-Dekheiri Reveals Efforts to reconstruct the Agricultural Sector

Sudan Events Cairo – Nahid Oshi

Sudan’s ambassador to Cairo, Imad Al-Din Adawi, revealed the national efforts made to rehabilitate and reconstruct all economic sectors in the post-war period.
During his address to the working session to discuss the document on prospects for reconstructing the agricultural sector in Sudan, which was organized by the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development ( AOAD) at the Agricultural Club buildings in Cairo, he referred to the movements of the institutions concerned with production, particularly in the wake of the systematic destruction carried out by the rebel militia as a result of its attack on all important production sites and projects in the states of Khartoum, Gezira and Sennar and its seizure of large numbers of agricultural inputs and machinery, which put the agricultural season in the country in front of real challenges and crises that threaten the lives of citizens due to the lack of food.
He affirmed that the targeting of the infrastructure of the Sudanese State by the rebel militia led to severe damage to all sectors of the state, most notably the agricultural sector, which requires effective Arab and international action to address basic issues such as disrupting agricultural projects, stopping the transport of goods and spoiling large quantities, which necessitates finding effective plans to save the agricultural season.
He reviewed international reports that talk about the presence of 25 million people in real danger due to the inability to provide food, and said that it is a human tragedy due to the lack of food and more than 14 areas in a real food crisis and the decline in agricultural land in the Gezira scheme , which reflects the impact of the project due to the targeting of the rebel militia of machinery and equipment and the exposure of citizens’ lives to danger,
He added that the report expected that the last quarter of this year and the first quarter of next year will witness a decrease in the percentage of the population exposed to a severe food crisis.
The ambassador confirmed the launch of a series of dialogues on various issues, and considered the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD)one of the regional levers for effective joint Arab action and its influence is distinguished outside the region in an attempt to manage a dialogue with experts and those interested in agricultural affairs, which is crystallized in the document.
He appreciated the achievements made by the organization.
For his part, the Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) Professor Ibrahim Al-Dekheiri, referred to the suffering of the Sudanese people due to the war and the destruction that befell all economic sectors, including the agricultural sector.
He said that the agricultural sector and related sectors are of particular importance in achieving the greatest possible means of livelihood for the vast majority of the Sudanese people.
This sector was affected by the war, and its infrastructure and factories were destroyed, and its facilities were damaged, which destroyed production and severely affected food security in Sudan and in neighboring countries that are closely linked to the products of the Sudanese agricultural sector.
He pointed to the clear impact of the destruction that befell the agricultural sector, and added, “In order to avoid the effects of this on food security, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, with the support of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, took the initiative to support the agricultural season a month after the outbreak of the crisis in Sudan, and the Economic and Social Sector of the League of Arab States secured it, and focused on three issues: supporting the agricultural season from development partners to preserve food security and the agricultural fabric, preserving the production system through partnerships, and organizing trade exchange through reciprocal deals for available Sudanese products in exchange for the required inputs.” Al-Dekheiri explained that the initiative relied on the gradual development of the relief efforts of the agricultural sector, then moving to the requirements of early recovery, reaching the efforts and requirements of rebuilding the agricultural sector, which is discussed in the strategic document for rebuilding the Sudanese agricultural sector, which was prepared by the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) by specialized experts from inside and outside the organization as a contribution from it to the national, regional and international efforts calling for helping Sudan to get out of its slump represented by the widespread destruction of the Sudanese economy, particularly the agricultural sector, due to war, instability, and lack of security and peace in Sudan, where agriculture is practiced with all its plant, animal and fish components.
