Sudan Events – Follow-ups
On Thursday, at least 10 people were killed in a shelling by the Rapid Support RSF Militia that targeted a crowded market in the capital of North Darfur State, El Fasher, while the army’s warplanes attacked militia sites in the eastern and southern parts of the city.
El Fasher continues to be subjected to daily artillery shelling and drone strikes, as the Rapid Support RSF Militia has been launching an attack on the city since May 10, killing large numbers of civilians and displacing thousands.
A doctor at the Saudi Hospital told Sudan Tribune: “At least ten people were killed in the renewed shelling by the Rapid Support RSF Militia of the livestock market, while dozens were injured.”
Eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune that the Rapid Support Forces RSF artillery targeted the southern and western neighborhoods of El Fasher, resulting in a large number of deaths and injuries, while the shelling destroyed homes around the livestock market, in addition to shops and cafes in the area crowded with civilians.
The neighborhoods of “Al-Radeef, Al-Thawra, Al-Salam” and parts of Makarka were affected by the artillery shelling, where a large number of homes and service facilities were destroyed.
Meanwhile, the governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minawi, said in a tweet on the “X” platform: “In a horrific and terrorist crime par excellence that is added to the record of the rebel Rapid Support Forces RSF militia, today, Thursday, they cowardly carried out violent artillery shelling using heavy artillery in El Fasher city against unarmed citizens, targeting their homes and the livestock market, which led to the martyrdom of dozens and the injury of a number of others who are being counted.”
Minawi strongly condemned the targeting of innocent citizens, markets, public facilities and hospitals, and called on the World community to intervene quickly to stop these violations and the shedding of innocent blood.
The spokesperson for the Sudan Liberation Movement( SLM) -Minnawi leadership, Al-Sadig Ali Al-Nour, said: “The aggression that the city of Al-Fasher is being subjected to is a crime against humanity,” and he saw that the residents of Al-Fasher are being subjected to siege, systematic killing, forced displacement, and targeting on the basis of race and gender, in light of the silence and neglect of the World community.
He explained that the Rapid Support RSF Militia, despite announcing its agreement to participate in the upcoming “Geneva” talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire and opening corridors to deliver humanitarian aid, has never stopped continuing its attacks and artillery shelling of multiple cities and villages in the various states of Sudan, which has caused the killing and displacement of hundreds.
The spokesperson appealed to the world community to expedite the rescue of innocent lives, provide relief to those affected by the war, and provide medical equipment to the wounded.
