ICRC: Two-thirds of Sudanese are deprived of Health Care

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC) said on Thursday that two-thirds of Sudanese are unable to obtain health care, while the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR reported that 125 hospitals were affected by the conflict.
The International Committee ICRC said in a statement that “two out of three Sudanese civilians can no longer access basic health services, after most hospitals and centers in the country were forced to close their gates .”
It pointed out that repeated attacks on health facilities and their workers have had dire consequences amid the worsening food crisis, as health care centers are of great importance for preventing, detecting and treating malnutrition.
In the same context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR and the Global Protection Cluster said in a joint statement that 125 hospitals, 218 public buildings and 79 humanitarian offices were affected by the conflict that killed 19,000 people and injured more than 33,000 others.
The statement revealed that the United Nations Commission documented 31 incidents of attacks on civilians and civilian targets in various parts of Sudan, including North Darfur, Sennar, Omdurman and West Kordofan, in July, in which 394 civilians were killed, including 45 children.
The statement affirmed that the parties to the conflict did not send any prior warning in most of the documented incidents, as most of the victims were killed while they were in their homes or in public facilities and streets while participating in civilian activities.
