Dutch Interventions to enhance Food Security in Sudan
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Netherlands announced its commitment to support Sudanese farmers to increase local food production, affirming that the ongoing conflict in Sudan has threatened food security in the country, resulting in a number of families reaching famine levels in several areas.
The Dutch Embassy in Sudan said that this year: “We contributed 3.4 million euros through our partners in the ZOA organization to support the agricultural season. 400 metric tons of seeds were distributed to 21,700 small farmers, including 2,650 women, in 20 localities across seven states.”
She added that these efforts began in early July, focusing on South Darfur, Central Darfur, East Darfur, and South Kordofan, and farmers were also supported in the White Nile, Blue Nile, and Gedarif .
She pointed out that this initiative goes beyond providing seeds, as it includes support throughout the agricultural season, including during and after harvest. “By standing with Sudanese farmers, we seek to enhance food security despite the major challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in the country.”
