The commander of the Ukrainian army announced that his forces have taken control of 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory in the border region of Kursk. Meanwhile, Russian authorities stated that they are evacuating more residents from the area.
During a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky today, Ukrainian army commander Oleksandr Syrskyi said, “We continue to carry out offensive operations in the Kursk region, and currently we control about 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory.”
Earlier today, the governor of Kursk province, Alexey Smirnov, said that evacuation orders have been extended to the Belovsky district, located south of Ukraine’s main maneuvers, which has a population of 14,000.
Another 11,000 people have left their homes in a neighboring area of Belgorod due to what its governor called hostile activity at the border.
