Washington: We Will Do Our Best to End the Horrific Crisis in Sudan

New peace talks aimed at ending the war in Sudan began in Geneva on Wednesday, with the United States, which is leading the talks, insisting on their continuation. “We will do everything we can to end this horrific crisis in Sudan,” said the U.S. representative. The opening session of the Geneva negotiations was attended by international mediators, including the U.S., Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, the African Union, and the United Nations. U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, announced the start of the international partners’ opening session in Geneva to resolve the crisis in Sudan, which was dedicated to international and technical partners representing the mediating countries. He tweeted, “The opening session began with our international and technical partners representing Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, the African Union.” He added, “We are focused on ensuring the parties comply with their commitments in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and implementing them.” He emphasized that “the warring parties must respect international humanitarian law and facilitate humanitarian aid.” The U.S. envoy stressed that “the time has come to silence the guns.” In a joint statement, the U.S., Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, the African Union, and the United Nations said they are working diligently on the first day of intensive diplomatic efforts to support Sudan, deliver humanitarian aid, stop hostilities, and ensure compliance with previous Jeddah outcomes and other efforts under international humanitarian law.
