Al-Burhan: No Objection to Meeting with Jeddah Platform Facilitators

The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received a phone call from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken concerning the Geneva talks. Al-Burhan stated that Sudan’s firm position is to adhere to the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration Agreement according to the vision presented to the Jeddah Platform parties. There is no objection to sitting with the facilitators of the Jeddah Platform to discuss how to implement it, while rejecting the expansion of the facilitators’ list.
In this context, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the need for the Sudanese Armed Forces to participate in the ongoing peace talks in Switzerland to fully implement the Jeddah Declaration to protect Sudanese civilians. According to a statement from the US State Department, Blinken noted that the international community has gathered to support these negotiations, which Switzerland and Saudi Arabia co-hosted, with the aim of committing to the Jeddah Declaration, ceasing hostilities, ensuring humanitarian access, and establishing a new mechanism for monitoring implementation. Blinken reiterated that these objectives reflect the commitments in the Jeddah Declaration and that the talks aim to fully implement it. He also stressed the urgency for both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to participate in the talks to end the war and ensure humanitarian access to the millions of Sudanese suffering.
