Sudan Events – Reports
The Acting Minister and Director-General of the Ministry of Social Development, Sadiq Hassan Farini, stated that the Khartoum State government, under the supervision of the governor, has established five model soup kitchens, providing two meals a day. He noted that these kitchens are geographically spread to fill the gaps in existing charity kitchens and are operating continuously. The state government coordinated fully with community organizations and benefactors to meet the needs of the people of Khartoum State in the current situation.
Farini, according to the Sudan News Agency, emphasized that the primary goal of these kitchens in Khartoum State is to maintain social cohesion and address challenges by strengthening community bonds and providing all the necessary supplies to alleviate the living conditions of the people in Khartoum, particularly essential services like food, water, and electricity, which are provided at shelter centers.
He explained that the Khartoum State government hosted the displaced and refugees by opening shelter centers and provided support in cooperation with organizations, benefactors, and all those willing to help.
He further mentioned that the number of shelter centers has reached “160” in the Karari locality, housing more than “16,200 families” consisting of women and children. He pointed out that the kitchens received full supervision from the Khartoum State government, where the governor oversaw the charitable activities with joint efforts from official agencies and benefactors to provide food to citizens residing and arriving from other states following the large return movements to Karari and Omdurman.
He praised the benefactors who initiated these kitchens, describing them as the remedy that strengthens the resilience of the people amid the current situation.
