Barcelona’s Impossible Dream as Transfer Window Closes
Sudan Events – Agencies
After securing the signing of Dani Olmo and failing to bring in Nico Williams from Athletic and Luis Díaz from Liverpool, Barcelona is still chasing a quality addition to their squad. With the transfer window still open, the Catalans are considering AC Milan winger Rafael Leão as an option.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the board, led by Deco, is focusing on the 25-year-old Portuguese player as a viable option for Hansi Flick’s squad. Although it might not be an easy signing, the club believes they can pull it off.
However, the signing of the Portuguese star could be tricky due to his young age and his status as a key player for the Italian side. On the other hand, his agent, Jorge Mendes, might see a move to a European powerhouse like Barcelona as a good opportunity, especially since Leão hasn’t fully unlocked his potential at Milan.
Barça is aware that Leão’s price tag could be around €90 million ($98.1 million), making it a challenging deal, but they also know they have a bit over €58 million set aside, originally intended for Williams’ release clause. The rest of the transfer fee for the Portuguese player would have to be negotiated with Milan’s management to reach a mutual agreement.
Additionally, with the potential departures of Lenglet, Gündogan, and Vitor Roque, the funds available for a new signing would increase, making it easier for Deco to strike a deal. However, Barcelona isn’t solely focused on Leão; they’re also considering bringing in another, more affordable signing to strengthen the squad.
