Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has directed the issuance of strict controls to address the current congestion of goods at the Ashkit and Arqin crossings, and to establish radical solutions to prevent future occurrences.
In a meeting with relevant government parties, Minister of Finance Dr. Jibreel Ibrahim directed the issuance of a clear and binding circular that includes basic controls governing the movement of exports and imports at the crossings, and the tightening of necessary banking procedures to regulate them. The aim is to ensure the entry of export revenues into the banking system and to regulate imports through banking procedures, ensuring that imports meet all the conditions required for entry in accordance with the country’s needs while activating mechanisms to protect the local market from dumping. The meeting, which was attended by the Secretary-General of the Sovereign Council, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, the Governor of the Bank of Sudan, the Deputy Minister of Planning at the Ministry of Finance, and other relevant government agencies, agreed to form a task force for the field treatment of the congestion issue at the crossings according to the customs law, with the task force expected to clear the goods within one month of starting its duties. It was also agreed to regulate the administrative and technical system at the crossings, equip them with specialized human resources to radically address the congestion issue, and ensure it does not recur.
