Libyan Army Frees 1,000 Illegal Migrants from Human Trafficking Gang

The General Command of the Libyan Army announced yesterday that more than 1,000 illegal migrants, including women and children, were liberated near the Shwerif area in southwestern Libya, and the gang responsible for detaining them for human trafficking was arrested. Khalifa al-Abidi, head of the media office of the Libyan Army’s General Command, told the Russian news agency “Sputnik” that the forces of the Tarek Bin Ziyad Brigade, affiliated with the Libyan Army, managed to free more than 1,000 illegal migrants, most of whom are of African nationalities, who were held in a large human trafficking den near Shwerif. Al-Abidi added that the operation included freeing women and children among the detainees, confirming that the forces arrested the gang responsible for these illegal activities, and that the migrants were moved to a safe location, where all their needs were provided, and they were housed in suitable accommodation. The Libyan military official indicated that the operations forces in the Tarek Bin Ziyad Brigade conducted a raid on the den, where large quantities of drugs were found in the possession of the gang involved in human trafficking and the detention of migrants.
