Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s manager, praised the team’s duo Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer after their 6-2 thrashing of Wolverhampton in the second round of the English Premier League on Sunday.
According to the German Press Agency, the duo played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s victory, with Madueke scoring a hat-trick and Palmer scoring one goal along with providing three assists.
Maresca said in an official statement on the club’s website: “Noni delivered a fantastic performance, not just in the second half but also in the first 15 minutes of the match. He was always outstanding in one-on-one situations.”
He added: “From day one, I emphasized that Madueke is the type of winger I like, he works extremely well, but the best thing he showed today wasn’t the hat-trick, it was his defensive commitment throughout the 90 minutes.”
The Chelsea coach continued: “Madueke showed a special mentality, and the same goes for Christopher Nkunku, who played for five minutes, and also Joao Felix. If we want to succeed, we must first and foremost have the right mentality.”
Maresca also spoke about Cole Palmer, saying: “I have known him for 4 or 5 years, he worked with me for a season in the Manchester City second team, and then with the first team.”
He concluded: “He is a fantastic player and a special person. I’m not surprised by his goals last season or the goal he scored today or his assists. He is a top-class player.”
