Napoli Reaches Agreement to Sign McTominay

Sudan Events – Agencies
Napoli is close to completing the signing of Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay from Manchester United.
The proposed deal hinges on the satisfaction of all parties with the player’s terms. A fee of around €30 million has been agreed upon, with United set to receive a share of any future sale by the Italian club.
McTominay is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025, with United holding the option to extend for another 12 months. Thus, discussions with the 27-year-old player are still ongoing.
As an academy graduate, selling McTominay would represent a “pure profit,” making this move significant for United’s compliance with the financial regulations of the Premier League and UEFA.
United already have a potential replacement in the form of Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, with the sale of McTominay likely to facilitate this acquisition.
Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Mana, has held extensive talks in London and Manchester as the Italian club works on signing the Scottish international, along with Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Brighton’s Billy Gilmour.
In the 2023-2024 season, McTominay had his best-ever scoring campaign, netting 10 goals in 43 matches. He has also improved his scoring record for Scotland, netting 8 goals since March 2023.
Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that Fulham made a £20 million bid to sign McTominay as they sought to bolster their midfield following João Palhinha’s departure to Bayern Munich. However, this offer fell short of United’s valuation, and since then, Fulham has signed Sander Berge—another midfielder United was interested in—from Burnley.
