Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic hopes that his Olympic success will carry over to the U.S. Open, despite not having played since the Paris Olympics.
According to the German News Agency, Djokovic became the second player in the Open Era to win all four Grand Slam tournaments, an Olympic gold medal, and the ATP Tour Finals, following in the footsteps of former American star Andre Agassi.
The Serbian star won the Flushing Meadows title last year, achieving his 24th Grand Slam title, but a year later, he will be aiming for the win that would make him surpass former Australian star Margaret Court, who holds the record.
Djokovic said in an interview with “EuroSport”: “I hope I never recover from it (Olympic success); because those were the best feelings I’ve ever had as an athlete.”
He added: “On the court, as well as off it, when I returned to celebrate with my people, I was with all the Serbian athletes who managed to succeed in the Olympics.”
Djokovic continued: “It was a great moment that I will never forget, and I will try to use it to boost my confidence for the next date in New York in the coming weeks.”
