Flick: Barcelona’s Goal is to Win La Liga

Barcelona started their La Liga season with two wins despite the absence of several key players, raising expectations of what the team can achieve under new coach Hansi Flick.
Barcelona, who are tied at the top of the standings with Celta Vigo on six points, will visit Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday. The Madrid team has not lost this season, having achieved a surprising 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad before drawing 0-0 with Getafe on Saturday.
Flick said at a press conference on Monday: “The goal at Barcelona should always be to win the league. Of course, it’s a long road, but we have started it well, although everything can change quickly. We are happy with our start and confident. We are not getting ahead of ourselves by thinking about May; our focus is on maintaining momentum in the next match. We are satisfied with what the team is doing on the field. The level of training sessions is good, the players are very focused, and the intensity of the training is excellent, and this is clearly reflected in the matches.”
After coming up empty-handed last season and controversially sacking coach Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona appointed Flick, the former Bayern Munich and Germany national team coach, in hopes of reclaiming the league title from Real Madrid.
Flick took over Barcelona amid escalating financial troubles, with the Catalan club desperately trying to reduce the first-team wage bill to comply with La Liga’s financial rules and register new players like Dani Olmo.
