Government Urges UN to Pressure Rebels Blocking Aid Deliveries

On Thursday, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with the UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, in the presence of Foreign Minister Ambassador Hussein Awad and the UN Special Envoy Ramadhan Al-Amamra. The Foreign Minister stated that the meeting discussed developments in Sudan, with the Chairman briefing her on the government’s efforts to open safe corridors for humanitarian aid, crucial for assisting Sudanese citizens harmed by the atrocities committed by the terrorist RSF militia. He noted Sudan’s significant cooperation with the UN in opening many aid routes, including the Adre crossing on the Chad border.
The Foreign Minister added that Sudan urges the UN to exert more pressure on the rebels obstructing aid deliveries and seizing relief convoys to distribute among their factions. Despite concerns about the Adre crossing, the Sudanese government cooperated and opened it to counter any negative claims about its commitment to saving its people. The Minister called on the UN to condemn all violations committed by the RSF militia against civilians, highlighting the government’s commitment to international law. The UN Deputy Secretary-General confirmed that her visit aimed to assess the situation in Sudan, praising the Sudanese government’s decision to open the Adre crossing for humanitarian aid, stressing that the crisis requires cooperation from all humanitarian actors.
