Interior Minister: Increase in Smuggling During the War and Complications Facing Goods Entry
Sudan Events – Reports
Interior Minister Major General Khalil Basha Sairen revealed an increase in smuggling rates following the outbreak of the war. He called for more efforts to control the entry of goods, pointing out the malfunctioning of X-ray machines used for inspecting goods, which could contribute to the entry of banned items that pose a danger to the country.
The minister stated that Sudan is facing numerous issues in customs work, including delays in the entry of goods through sea and land ports. He pointed out that Sudan’s ranking is very low, being 185th out of 190 countries, which indicates a high level of complexity. He mentioned that several agencies contribute to these delays, including customs, specifications, and others.
He emphasized the importance of improving operations to reduce the time goods take to exit the port from 40 days to around a week.
