Floods and Torrents Displace Over 136,000 People in Sudan

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The Displacement Tracking Matrix, issued by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), revealed that more than 136,000 people in Sudan have been displaced by floods and torrents that have struck the country since last June, causing loss of life, property, and infrastructure damage. The organization’s estimates indicate that 47% of those displaced by the floods had already been displaced due to the ongoing conflict.
The IOM called for increased support from donors and the international community to address the growing humanitarian needs and displacement in Sudan, exacerbated by the recent floods.
Mohamed Refaat, Head of the IOM Mission in Sudan, said, “The scale of this disaster is staggering, and the humanitarian needs are immense,” noting that their teams on the ground are working to provide life-saving assistance, but their resources are limited.
