Storms and Rains Cause Power Outages in Port Sudan

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The Ministry of Energy and Oil announced that the Turkish barge supplying electricity to Port Sudan went out of service on Friday due to storms and rains that damaged a main line.
The rains that began on Thursday evening and continued until dawn on Friday, along with strong cyclones, caused the Turkish barge that feeds Port Sudan, the new administrative capital, with electricity to go out of service after the iron links with the dock were cut.
The ministry stated in a press release that the outage coincided with a malfunction in the 33-kilovolt line head cable at the Port Sudan transformer station, leading to widespread outages in large parts of the city. The ministry confirmed that after continuous work, the cable was repaired and the line was restored.
The Electricity Company apologized to citizens for the outage, describing it as unexpected, and sent assurances that work is ongoing by technical teams from the transmission and distribution companies and the Turkish barge’s technical team to ensure its return to service as soon as possible.
The ministry clarified that the specialized team from the transmission and distribution department and the maritime ports is working on repairing the line and restoring service.
