Sudan Events – Agencies
The far-right “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) party has won a regional election for the first time, securing between 30.5% and 33.5% of the vote in the state of Thuringia, according to exit polls conducted on Sunday. The polls also indicate a close result between the AfD and the “Christian Democratic Union” in Saxony, where regional elections were also held on Sunday.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s “Social Democratic Party” appears to have had disappointing results in both states, garnering between 6.5% and 8.5% of the vote.
